Helpful Information for Medicare Recipients – June 2014
Posted in Helpful information for Medicare Recipients
Many of our SelectCare of New York clients not only require home healthcare, but need ancillary services such as Physical, Speech, and Occupational Therapies. These services are usually covered under Medicare benefits. While SelectCare does not accept direct Medicare as payment, our Field Nurse Supervisors routinely set up and coordinate these services with Medicare providers on behalf of our clients.
Medicare Rights Center of New Your City recently sent the following information that Medicare recipients may find useful.
Understanding Medicare
Medicare recipients frequently get Medicare Summary Notices (MSNs) if they have Original Medicare, or an Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) if they have Medicare Advantage plans. The most important thing to remember is that these documents are just informative, not bills! The purpose of these notices is so that you can review the healthcare services you received from individual providers, see what is covered by Medicare and what is not, and to alert you to potentially fraudulent billing.
- Not sure how to read your MSN if you have original Medicare? Just check out the step-by-step tutorial on the Medicare website.
- See fraudulent charges on your account? Learn how to detect and prevent fraud.
