Posted in Free Entertainment in New York City
New York City is home to hundreds of museums, theaters and other exciting attractions that make for perfect day trips, and with the assistance of SelectCare’s team of home health caregivers, seniors are being empowered to get out and explore Manhattan.
One of the best ways to see what New York City has to offer without breaking the bank is by using the benefits and discounts associated with the city’s IDNYC program. Read on to learn about these great entertainment and educational opportunities!
IDNYC is a free NYC-specific identification card that not only serves as a universal gateway to city services, but also grants the owner a variety of discounts at cultural and entertainment institutions across the five boroughs. The IDNYC program’s application system is designed to be more accessible, senior and non-English speaker-friendly, and faster than the State-wide system identification system. Those interested in enrolling can do so through the city’s online portal.
NYC Museums
IDNYC holders are eligible for free one-year memberships to more than 40 museums and performance spaces, including the American Museum of Natural History, Carnegie Hall, the New York Botanical Garden and more! Membership enrollment varies from location to location, so be sure to check out the full list of participating organizations for details.
Entertainment in Manhattan
New York City’s IDNYC system also grants the holder discounts to a number of entertainment venues across the city, including famed off-Broadway theaters like the New Victory Theater, SoHo Playhouse, Second Stage Theatre and more! Many of these venues do not offer discounted tickets for Friday night and weekend matinees, so be sure to check the details for each participating location.
Sporting Events
IDNYC card holders also gain access to a variety of discounted tickets for sporting events. The Barclays Center offers 25% discounts on select tickets for Brooklyn Nets and New York Islanders games, as well as championship boxing events. Soccer fans receive a flat $3 discount on select tickets for New York Football Club matches at Yankee Stadium, while baseball fans can receive notifications of IDNYC-discounted tickets for Mets and Yankees tickets by registering here.
Continuing Education and Activities
There’s more than tickets on offer for IDNYC card holders. Those seeking to broaden their horizons with educational seminars, dance and painting classes or technical classes to improve computer literacy enjoy a 15% discount through CourseHorse.
NYC scholars can also apply for classes directly at a variety of institutions, including Baruch College, the 92nd Street Y and even Murray’s Cheese! Check here for a full listing of participating schools.
